Miss Fortune Mystery
review 1: Louisianna Longshot by Jana Deleon hardly needs a five star review from me, but it's getting it. Being a Southerner myself and understanding how whacky we can be down here, I settled in for a rollicking good time and got it. I looked everywhere for the main character and all I saw was Redding so I'm going to call her Sandy-Sue or Fortune which is the name of the lady she impersonated lady she portrayed in the book.Although Gertie and Ida Belle went way over what we do in North Carolina, we do express a voracious love for banana pudding although we don't buy Nikes and sprint to Francine's restaurant from church to beat the Catholics so they'll be none left. And, we don't scour muddy, stinky bayous for the friend who's a potential murderer of a man everbody wanted to kill an... moreyway. Most of us women do not pack heat and shoot holes through the ceiling or lunge over 8' walls neatly with a flip; other than those, perhaps that's us.Other than that, call me Ida Belle. We don't get any better as we get older. We just get smarter. It's frightening sometimes. Great book that was a fun read throughout. How this author is going to do a series about a live woman pretending to be another live woman in a small town for any length of time is beyond me. I'll be watching. Oh, is a love affair with Deputy LeBlanc in the works? Just asking.
review 2: This was a really cute small-town Southern mystery/adventure, and different enough from the usual to keep my interest. The main character is a young woman who is a fugitive CIA agent hiding out in a small Louisiana village (unrealistic, but what fun would it be with realism?). The plot hangs together really well and maintains interest through the book. I loved the two old ladies who head up the small-town Louisiana old lady mafia. less
