review 1: Jadyn St. John, the local game warden is in for the ride of her life, when a damaged boat shows up in the bayou. A missing person case turns in to a stalking, drug and murder case, even before she can figure out Colt. Jadyn is looking to identify the owner of the damaged boat, trekking from one shrimp house to another. She isn't aware that the fish Helena crashes into are actually filled with cocaine. Until she and Colt finally meets up with the missing boat owner. Taylor Beaumont, is a new Private investigator, taking on a missing husband case, from a wealthy woman. Taylor travels to Mudbug only to find Helena and three women who can actually interact with her. Taylor is trying to do her best with the missing husband case, only to learn the missing boat captain and her mi... moressing husband is one and the same person. When the wealthy woman has murder on her mind and tracks her husband to an isolated cabin in the bayou, all she wants to do is kill him, but Jayne and Colt stand in her way. Helena comes to the rescue only to screw everything up. At times its laugh out loud funny and other times you flip the pages to learn what is really going on with the missing boat captain and the crazy wealthy woman.
review 2: Life in Mudbug has been calm these last few weeks, and Helena Henry is bored. Considering that the ghost creates mayhem even when she's focused and intent on a task, this is a rather alarming development for hotel owner Mildred and her friends Maryse and Jadyn. From causing a brawl on main street to reenacting the horsehead scene from the 'Godfather' - Helena's up to untold amounts of mischief. And that's before she starts losing control of her powers in a sort of ghostly midlife (afterlife?) crisis.Add a missing fisherman, suspicious activities in the surrounding bayous and you have a rollicking good adventure and a great read.I love Jana Deleon's sense of humor. She always manages to make me laugh. Helena's antics are amusing as usual and her wardrobe choices, well, let's call them outlandish. I might never get the mental pictures out of my head. The mystery is interesting and complex, but it wasn't too hard to figure out what was going on with the missing man and his boat. I was able to guess the general outline of the mystery pretty early on. This didn't bother me too much - the suspense was still going pretty strong, with danger lurking in every corner of the swamp. If you've read and liked the previous books in the series, then you'll probably like this book, too. It has the expected mixture of humor, romance, and adventure. All in all, it's a great read that I can recommend to anyone. The book can be read as a standalone, but I recommend starting at the beginning of the series. That way, it's much easier to keep the characters and the backstory straight. less
