review 1: I listened to the audio version of this and the two previous Maeve Kerrigan books and now I'm anxiously waiting for the next to come out in audio! Maeve bothered me more than a little in this one, she appeared to be determined to act as dramatically and ridiculous as possible in her personal life. If she were a real police woman I'd question her intelligence based on her reasoning processes in her personal life. The mystery in this one was also less intricate than in the previous books, "whodunnit" seemed fairly obvious midway through, if not the why of it. Still, a good series with a good narrator and I'm VERY curious about how things will go for Derwin and Godley in the next book!
review 2: This book has so many contradictions. The heroine, Maeve Kerrigan, i... mores a rising star in the London Metropolitan police. She's the astute clever thing that sees the clues everyone else is missing. But, she has a stalker that for TWO books now remains on the loose. She doesn't back down to lunatic slashers or domineering bosses but this stalker is outwitting her at every move. Her and the boyfriend (also police)are pulling up stakes now in order to hide out from Mr. Stalker. Kind of hard to believe, plus I'm not a big fan of plots like this that spill into the next book. At one point I had 4 stars for this story but too many non-essential distractions plus a really convoluted ending reduced it to 3. If an author needs so much filler to beef up a book, maybe the story should be a little shorter. Unless, of course, they're being paid by the word! less
