review 1: The third book in Jaye Wells’ Sabina Kane series might be my favorite one yet. Flanked by sexy mage, Adam Lazarus, and her demon minion, Giguhl, Sabina heads to New Orleans to rescue her kidnapped sister, kill her evil grandmother and save the world by preventing a full on war between the vampire race and the mage and fae races. No pressure or anything. I think what I liked best in this book was the growth in Sabina as a character. Up until this point, she was mostly tough, angry and snarky. In Green-Eyed Demon, Sabina learns to tap into the emotion of love. She begins to realize that her days as a lone assassin are over and she is now part of a team. She has close friends, a sister and Adam… Speaking of Adam, his character also gets a chance to shine. We see ... morehow tough and brave he is. For two and a half books, Adam has waited for Sabina to mature into a person capable of forging a romantic relationship beyond just sexual. It was wonderful to see him rewarded for his wait. As with the other books in this series, the plot is a rollercoaster of action. There are some fun fight scenes, culminating when Sabina finally faces her grandmother. Overall, I give Green-Eyed Demon…Plot – 4 bookmarksCharacter Development – 4 ½ bookmarksLove Story – 4 ½ bookmarksFight Scenes – 4 bookmarksDream Cast (otherwise known as who I pictured while reading) – Emma Watson (Sabina), Sean Patrick Flannery (Adam), Cady the Demon Kitty (Giguhl), Jean Marsh (Lavina)

If I were to review this book at only half way through it, my rating would have been lower. The story moves along in the series and the situations are different, but it very much had the feel of the same old, same old. But then I started noticing a difference. The characters introduced to us in New Orleans became more interesting, as did how Sabina sees both Adam and Giguhl. And with her new insight, the conversations have more meaning and everything seemed to grow, including Sabina. In this story the gang is trying to find Sabina's twin Maisie, kidnapped by their world-dominating-goaled grandmother and a tip from an unexpected source leads them to New Orleans. And we learn that grandma-dearest isn't in the biggest threat that they face. The story really started grabbing me about halfway through it. Expect a great deal of action and emotions. And the way is opened up for a new directions.

An action-packed story with a nice mix of emotional developments and personal insight, not to mention the right dose of N'awlins drag queens and beignets - made me want to go back for a visit (particularly since that's exactly where my sister is at the moment!). I'm quite enjoying this series - it doesn't rank as highly as Seanan McGuire's October Daye series or Rob Thurman's Leandros books, but it has it's moments. Still really like that Sabina's not a pure lily and morality is still something she has difficulty with. Keeping the series on my TBR pile.
