Animal Man Vol. II
review 1: Choosing Jeff Lemire to write Animal Man was inspired, and it pays off in this volume even more than it did in the first. Although this book focuses more on setting the stage for a larger conflict, it also fleshes out the mythology really well, even reinterpreting Animal Man's origin in a creative way while still being true to the previous origins. The visit by Constantine is nice if unnecessary (and the design for Zatanna and Xanadu was really weird and not up to standards), and the overall arc of Buddy in the Red works well in forwarding the story and worldbuilding. The focus on balance instead of destruction is interesting, and I look forward to seeing how it plays out.
review 2: If DC, Swamp Thing, and The Thing (John Carpenter variety) had a comic book c
... morehild, this would be what they birthed. Ugh I love this comic. Animal Man is so graphic, I love it. The narrative of Red, Green, and Rot, I love it. The nightmarish landscape of this comic is like my artistic dream world, LOVE IT! Whoever is coming up with this scary-looking S#!T is an absolute genius. In my own words, this is a horrific comic, in the most loving way possible. Can't get enough. This, Swamp Thing, and Batwoman... Best 3 New 52 titles. less
