review 1: Pas pertama kali baca aja udah seru. Momen-momen ketegangan nya tuh ga cuma 1 atau 2 kali, tapi hampir di setiap bab, jadi gw ga bosen baca nya. Kate, peran utama nya, seorang gadis yang tinggal sama paman nya, Artemis, kaget soalnya dia adalah salah satu orang Berkemampuan. Dia diburu oleh para warden. Kate berusaha melarikan diri bareng Edgar, salah satu sahabat nya yang bekerja di perpustakaan. Mereka lari dari rumah paman nya, Artemis, melalui jalan bawah tanah. Tapi jalan bawah tanah pun ga se aman yang mereka pikir. Disana mereka ketemu seseorang yang memperlambat perjalanan mereka. Seru banget cerita nya. Gw malah suka sama tokoh antagonis utama nya, yaitu Silas, yang juga musuh utama Kate. Silas digambarkan sebagai karakter yang menyeramkan dan ga bisa dikalahkan. ... moreTapi ending nya unpredictable kok :D
review 2: The general Plot line about Shadowcry is basically about a witch named Kate who's family has been hunted for over 3 centuries. She has special powers that allow her to see things that normal people can't. Which is why a villain named Silas Steals her from her Uncle's book shop after trashing the place. Afterwards, the book gets really repetitive. The possible theme could be darkness, or the true meaning of friendship, seeing as her best friend, Edgar, tries to save her more than once. "You first," said Edgar, "Better he gets me than you." Page 38, when they are trying to escape her Uncle Artemis' book shop.I do not have a favorite or least favorite character. I do, however, have mixed feelings about the main character, Kate. She seems to be so courageous at times, and deathly loyal to her best friend when she tries to save him, yet weak if someone mentions her parents (which I totally understand, I'd get upset if someone kept mentioning my parents if they were dead, too). I just feel like there should be more stories out there where the girl doesn't need a man to save her (like Edgar does on several occasions) Over all, I somewhat liked the book. I found the setting to be enthralling, but story line, not so much. As to if I would recommend it, I would recommend it to certain friends whom I think would like or gain something from it, but not to everyone I know. It can be adventurous and wild at times, but the points where she wouldn't know what to do and would almost give up just seems to upset me for some reason. less
