review 1: I was really intrigued by the plot of this novel and once I started reading I was immediately drawn into Sabine's dual lives. There were good points and bad points to having two entirely different lives, it allowed Sabine to experience all manner of things that she wouldn't have otherwise, but at the same time it seemed to intensify the bad things and lead her down a dark path. The book dealt with issues of friendship, love, and self-harm in an extraordinary situation, yet the way it was told meant it was easy to empathise and relate to what Sabine was going through. I enjoyed this book and would recommend it to anyone who likes a book with a good twist.
review 2: Interesting idea, but not executed particularly well. The tagline was "The perfect life or the p
... moreerfect love. You choose." but I didn't understand why Sabine's Wellesley life was supposed to be perfect when she didn't get on with her brothers and was dating a guy who made her feel physically nauseous. Likewise, Sabine's perfect love in her Roxbury life was a guy she only met a couple of times before she decided it was true love and she couldn't live without him. I could tell right from the first two chapters that it would be impossible to choose between Sabine's lives, as they both had their pros and cons, and any decision would have to be arbitrary or a result of external circumstances. (Like one of her so-called "experiments" going wrong.) So it was pretty obvious she was going to stick with both lives in the end. I also predicted the ending -- although there was a moment when I was kind of hoping the doctor would say "ETHAN HAS BEEN DEAD... FOR WEEKS" and it turned out Sabine was genuinely crazy. Or that Ethan was a ghost. Now THAT would have been a twist. less
