review 1: This book is a very one good one, one that finally tells us the history of Clint Barton (aka Hawkeye). As the title suggests, Hawkeye is going blind. And if you think that is the biggest problem Clint could have... you're wrong. There's a shadow from the past that always haunted Clint, and now it's back as his worst nightmare. If there's something I should criticise about this book, is the villain chosen. I think the reason they gave him to fight Barton was to silly, or not fully developed to actually mean a 'believable' threat to Clint. I felt like they decided in the very last moment of that, I didn't like it.But you pass through that when the story of Clint surrounds you. Of course he's not alone, his fellows Avengers do make an appearance but this book doesn't forget his... more premise: tell the story of Hawkeye, a man without superpowers, an Avenger, a man with his own demons, a man with his own history.Nice book if you want to dig up in Clint's past and also relive some moments. I believe that in some points the plot is weak, but overall, it is a good book.
review 2: This is a good, solid look at the history of Clint Barton wrapped in a storyline that any Hawkeye fan will wince at in the way you only can we you are deeply concerned for the well being of a fictional character. The story's simple: Hawkeye's taken one-to-many blows to the head and is slowly going blind, not in the sense that his eyes are failing, but that the singles from his brain are screwing up, and he's not only having trouble aiming but occasionally having momentary flashbacks of the people he knows and how he first met them. It's a solid narrative structure to build a story of Clint once again going out on his own to try and fix things, and the character interactions are strong. He and Tony are snarky buddies. He and Steve are, as always, arguing about the right way to handle the situation. Since Clint's facing his own mortality in the sense that his vision is going and with it his livelihood, we get flashbacks to a younger Clint, from the time of his parents death, through his first meetings of the Avengers, to his rise as a leader in the team. It's a near-perfect jumping on story, only really flawed by the lack of explanation of how Black Widow and Bobbi Morse really made an impact in Clint's life. We see each woman for a few panels, and the relationships are briefly explained, but if you're going to do a whole mini around the life and times of Clint Barton, Natasha and Bobbi should get more than a single speaking line. Especially Bobbi, Clint's now ex-wife, and someone he still deeply respects.Overall, I recommend it. It really is a good jumping-on book for Clint Barton 101, and the art is strong (though, honestly, Steve's holo-shield will never not be hilarious to me). If you're a Hawkeye fan (or looking to become one), it does the job. less
