review 1: I had some issues with this one. While I loved the fake vampire cannibal introduction and the fruit that tastes like chicken that might possibly be from outer space, I hated the fact that they made Applebee to be such a grouch because he's gay and was hiding it. Maybe this is just my grievance against the comic book community or any piece of fiction that I've read about a gay character they always end up having a horrible life and having trouble finding happiness. I also found it very confusing in this book that the large breasted woman was introduced and then killed off immediately after. Was there a point to that? This book left me with more questions then answers. The reader gets thrown into this world very quickly, and I think I had some trouble keeping up. I already r... moreented the next one from the library so I'll have to see if I like the next one more.
review 2: The plot thickens as Detective Chu eats a strange plant that tastes like chicken. He leaves his new/old partner - back with a bionic face - and travels with his brother to a remote Pacific Island to find the source of the plant. His brother is kidnapped and Chu is attacked by a USDA Agent who is later found dead. Chu's crush, the food critic, reappears, as does the "vampire" from the end of the last volume.I wonder how many more food-related psychic abilities will be uncovered? And for some reason it cracks me up that all these agents behaving like ninjas are from banal government agencies like the FDA, USDA, etc. The small bit of romance is very cute. less
