review 1: So I enjoy John Sandford and Lucas Davenport. I suppose part of what I enjoy is my knowledge of Minnesota having traveled there many time going to the Boundary Water Canoe Area, hanging out at Camp Ripley courtesy of the US Army, and vacationing north of Duluth on Lake Superior. But still this read was fun times two because it deals with murder by a politician-- Kansas politics has just murdered itself (I guess that is suicide). Anyway, knowing what I know about Kansas politics...Sandford's take is not all that far from the reality I have experienced.
review 2: If there's one thing to be said about me and my reading habits, it's that I'm a sucker for Lucas Davenport novels. Sure, they've lost a bit of steam since maybe book 12 or 13 in the series, but Jo
... morehn Sandford knows how to tell a swift, engaging story. The interesting thing about this novel is that he sets up an antagonist for use in a later story, something he doesn't usually do. It was pretty good, kept my interest, and didn't deter me from picking up the next in the series. But if you held a gun to my head I'm pretty sure I'd say that I'm enjoying the Virgil Flowers books more than the Davenport stories. Blasphemy, I know, but what're ya' gonna do? less
