The Bartimaeus Trilogy: Graphic Novel

review 1: Die Trilogie um Bartimäus, Nathanael und Kitty von Jonathan Stroud gehört zu meinen Fantasyfavoriten der letzten Jahre. Jetzt hat Lee Sullivan den ersten Band, Das Amulett von Samarkand, als Comic, genauer und besser als graphic novel, umgesetzt. Ich war zunächst skeptisch, ob sich die Story und vor allem der zynische Humor in dieser Form gut umsetzen lassen würden, doch Sullivan ist ein prächtiges Buch gelungen. Die Bilder sind ansprechend und mit vielen Details gezeichnet, die Story wird trotz ihrer Komplexität gut transportiert, wenngleich sicher einige Feinheiten ausgelassen werden mussten. Die Erzählebenen von Bartimäus und Nathanael werden beibehalten, leider mussten natürlich die sehr witzigen Fußnoten des Romans dran glauben, diese wären sicher durch ihr... moree Textlänge unpassend gewesen. Der Comic ist in sich stimmig und macht Spaß.
review 2: I thought this book was pretty good. It was about a kids named Nathaniel and he is a magic user. They call them magicians. He summons a demon named Bartimaeus to get revenge on another magician named Simon Lovelace, that embarrassed him when he was young. Nathaniel steals a powerful amulet from Simon. Simon wants the amulet back very badly because it's a key part in his mission to become the prime minister of London. At the end, Simon summons a very powerful demon to try to kill the old prime minister. He does not succeed due to Nathaniel's work. So Nathaniel not only gets revenge, but also stops Simon's plans. less
