review 1: Great glimpse into Bartimaeus's old life. His narration was wonderful as usual and seeing this darker, Ptolemy-less Bartimaeus was an interesting contrast, as all the previous iterations had already been highly influenced by the boy magician. Although Bartimaeus does seem to already lean towards young human forms. But winged! For the characters, I don't really have to say that Bartimaeus was great. I liked seeing him work together (briefly) with Faquarl. Including Khaba's POV, however, I really disliked and found that portion slow. I also wasn't sure I liked being able to have that villain's POV portion. Asmira, on the other hand, I found interesting from the start and the further we went in, the more I liked her (a much better reception than Kitty's). Again, what I love a... morebout this series is I never know what'll happen next. Just wish there was more to it.
review 2: Bartimaeus outdid himself this time. Very witty and so funny. I am having a hard time moving on from this one. Still blinking and looking around, surprised that I'm not personally speaking with Bartimaeus at this rate abd having a telling-off from him. This is proof that a novel, nay, a series, a good one at that matter, doesn't always need a love angle. I need more of Bartimaeus, Mr. Stroud! less
