review 1: Pure drudgery. This long-winded book took me weeks to read because I could barely get through a chapter without falling asleep. I was intrigued as a former equestrian and resident of the Savannah area, but I was sorely disappointed by the cast of flat, unlikable characters, drawn-out plot, and less-than- exciting plot twists. When the final secret was revealed, it was depressing and sickening, and I still couldn't muster any emotion because I was so damn happy the book had ended.
review 2: I personally enjoyed the secondary element of the story involving teaching grandchildren to garden. I have found gardening to be very therapuetic. just to get your hands in the soil is soothing and makes me feel a part of the life cycle and to share that love with grandchildr
... moreen has been a wonderful passion. There are other twists and unexpected plots in the book. You keep thinking about how your life choices compare and contrast to the main characters in the book. I truly disliked the protagonist in the book until the end when I had to question my own choices. I am still questioning the ending as it somehow does not fit with my conservative views especially of the south during that era and even today. I love books that make me think and this one did. less
