review 1: A gritty urban fantasy which starts with a similar theme to the first book in the series. Matthew Swift comes around with the usual realisation of 'not dead yet'. London has come under threat from mystical forces. The midnight mayor is dead and it is down to swift and the blue electric angels to solve the riddles written across London 'give me back my hat' which seem to be linked to the disappearance of a teenage boy, the appearance of spectres and Mr Pinner and the death of the midnight mayor. A dark and intriguing tale if not a tad overly descriptive in places (same criticism as first novel) which picks up pace two thirds into the book resulting in a gripping climatic finish.
review 2: I loved the first book in this series an awful lot it was one of t
... morehe most unique books I'd read in a long time. This book I felt wasn't as strong because there just didn't seem to be as many new ideas or as much going on. With the blue angels integrated into Matthew I felt the writing style wasn't as interesting as the first book. The plot also felt a little smaller with only one villain. However, it was still really interesting and fun and had lots of great ideas. I'm looking forward to the next one and seeing how the series develops. less
