review 1: I picked this one up on a whim at my local library and ended up loving it. It's a good variant on the traditional vampire story. The revived Vikings were hilarious and almost worth reading the book for all on their own. Fran was a good heroine. I enjoyed her honest bewilderment at trying to manage the supernatural side of her life and her determination to hold out for more than a prophecy and Fate-determined relationship.Benedikt was a little harder to get a read on initially but ended up being a genuinely complex character.
review 2: Warning: May Contain Some SpoilersFresh from reading Confessions of a Vampire's girlfriend I just HAD to immediately read on to find out what happens next in the story and I was not disappointed. In fact I stayed up all night
... moreand had no desire to put it down. First thing is to say DEFINITELY read Confessions first or much of the greatness in this book will fall by the wayside. The history is key to this book really. Where my only complaint of the last book was its lack of flirtation, sexual tension etc. I can safely say THIS BOOK DELIVERS!! Heaps of sexual tension, flirting, sex - that wasn't overly or crudely done, but really is well written and makes you long to be Fran yourself! Also loved the deepening of their feelings and relationship, it was passionate and desirable. Really liked seeing their maturing love. This book I would say had more emphasis on that - def. more adult - but def. more awesome than the last book in this respect. Hard to explain but read it and you will NOT be disappointed! Of course the return and more page time devoted to the Vikings just made this book! Oh I just love them so! They are hilarious, I raved about them in the last book and again I can't say enough about them. Laugh out loud funny over and over again :) They deserve 10 stars, I recommend reading just for them! The ending was a bit confusing like hmmmm...is there going to be another Ben and Fran story (I hope so!) or will that be concluded in a different story? Also some unanswered questions surrounding the bad guy of this novel - why did he keep appearing when she was summoning Loki? Why did he take her mum? I'm hoping there will be another book to wrap all this up and it will be another Ben and Fran book. Fingers crossed. less

I've read all of Katie MacAlisters Dark One novels and was uber excited to read In the Company of Vampires. In the third installment of Fran and Ben's story (first two being YA) this one is when Fran's grown and now she has to return to the Faire to find her mother who is missing. Feeling Loki the Norse God, is involved, craziness ensues... I forgot how much fun I have reading MacAlisters books. Thoroughly enjoyed yet another one...

Meh. :) There was a short story before this called Confessions of a Vampire's Girlfriend where a Dark One ended up with a 17-year-old (maybe 16?) Beloved. This is five-ish years later. They broke up and she moved away because she wanted to know she was living her life, not just going along with fate's intentions. Overall, it was alright but there are definitely other, much better "Dark Ones" stories.

I love these books. I fall in love with the characters quickly and then can't get enough of them.

It started out great and lost me toward the end.
