review 1: I was hoping to like this book... I read it as an audio book and maybe that was why I got so annoyed? I don't know. It was cute, good vampires, firey mates, the story continues the Dark Ones series nicely... I found myself getting annoyed at the main character constantly saying, "Jesus wept" as her "cursing phrase." Mix it up a little! It was said on every other page. Anyways, this is a classic MacAlister novel. If you love her you will enjoy this read.
review 2: Why do I keep reading these? They're okay, but they're just nothing special. I always feel like I'm missing out on key parts of the stories, and I end up having to go back and look for what I missed. Then once I get to the end, I realize I didn't actually miss anything at all. She just neglected to
... more mention it before. Ugh. I was beyond confused with Sally. I didn't understand how Cora could hate her and then trust her in the same time span, and then say that she was evil too. It just makes no sense. And honest to goodness, if I'd had to read "Jesus wept" as an exclamation one more time, I think I would have ripped the book to shreds. Alec was okay, but both he and Cora were huge, stubborn pains in the ass. We finally get to see Ulfur brought back, but that just upset me all the more. It took five minutes to bring him back, yet supposedly Pia and Kristoff had been trying to do so for months? Why didn't they just get a lichmaster in the first place? Again, totally makes no sense. We see Noelle again, and she mentions that she's the Beloved of a Dark One who didn't want her and that her old roommate is going to find her another Dark One. And then that's it. No more mention of her. I was stuck trying to remember which story she fit into. I still have no clue. And while I'm complaining, am I the only one who noticed what a fool Cora made of herself when she arranges for an army of liches to follow her and storm the Moravian Council? Then they get there, and Alec has everything handled already. Yet he's faced with footing the bill for transporting all of them through the portal, of course. less
