review 1: Audiobook. An incredibly curious story about family disintegration, reunion and the people who help us on our path through life. A mother mourning for a lost daughter who ran away from home and the law adopts a stay girl who shows up on her doorstep in the middle of a snow storm. Together they build a fictitious life that blooms into reconciliation. Told from several perspectives in the past and present the story keeps you guessing about possible supernatural workings, good and evil, and the angels around us.
review 2: There were times when I wanted to stop reading because I thought the author was a little too enchanted with his own elegant turns of phrase, rather than focusing on the story. But in the end, Donohue redeemed himself. I didn't like this as muc... moreh as his STOLEN CHILD, which I loved, but by the time I got to the epilogue this was a journey I was glad I'd made with the author. Fans of magical realism will love this touching story that interweaves big questions about faith, family, and the search for connection. less
