review 1: comics are confusing as heck, pass it onmy friend's been going hard for captain marvel for awhile so i picked this up? but i don't think this is what she was talking about because none of the title pages match the pictures she posted. how many versions of captain marvel are there floating around exactly?anyways i do like what i've seen of carol. not sure i would have gone for the time travel in the first volume choice myself -- i don't really advocate making set up more confusing then it has to be, particularly considering that marvelverse's love of reboots kind of comes with some inherent confusion in itselfto be fair, there was a four page explanation of carol's history at the end but to adopt the parlance of the internet: tl;dralso, gosh, american comics. i always forge... moret how jarring it can be to have art styles abruptly shift in the middle of a volume. really think they could learn something from the manga model3 stars
review 2: Captain Marvel (aka Carol Danvers) takes a time traveling ride back to WWII and then the 1960's to meet her pilot mentor in her younger days.I definitely like Carol as Captain Marvel, one of the most interesting female heroes I've read. This was a nice look at the character and boosted my interest for the upcoming movie a bit. I liked her character and dialogue here, but it didn't feel like a great place to jump into her story. Probably because it wasn't really about her so much as her mentor. I can't say I totally understood the conclusion and the purpose of the whole trip, either, and I'm usually pretty savvy with these timey-wimey things. less
