review 1: I absolutely loved this book. I really dig enemies to lovers, and while Daniel and Archie weren't *enemies* per se, there was a lot of delicious tension between them. I'm also a sucker for undercover/fake relationship that becomes real. The first sex scene when they knew they were being watched hit my buttons hard. There was also a delightful amount of hurt/comfort, which is another of my very favourite things. I found both characters to be refreshing, especially Daniel. I'm very eager to read more of their spy adventures and to see their relationship deepen. This is my first KJ Charles book, but it certainly won't be the last. Excellent pacing, characterization and attention to historical detail. I'm hooked.
review 2: I loved this. It's that odd (in a good way
... more)thing of a modern historical, by which I mean set in a past that sees itself as modern. The country house party our MCs are at has new things like electric lighting. It's surrounded by baby trees that will take a hundred years to grow. Archie (*heart beats a little faster*) arrives at the party in a motor car. Great, interesting setting and appealing MCs all described in KJC's rather wonderful prose. What's not to love? less
