review 1: The idea of this book and indeed the premise of the "novel" bookstore, or in this case "The Good Bookstore" was so appealing to me. A book for book lovers and a store that carried ONLY the finest in literature as opposed to what is best selling and appeals to popular culture. Although well written the "mystery" lost itself and the few plot twists were unnecessary. Still, an interesting and thought provoking read and if nothing else a dream and a hope of a bookstore filled with quality novels.
review 2: This book was bound to be a winner since 1) it was published by Europa Editions, which is hands down my favorite publisher and 2) is set in a bookstore. As I expected, I really enjoyed the characters, the setting, and even the crime angle to it (Crime has never b... moreeen my genre of choice). However, the open letter that Francesca writes in the novel is just mind blowing and completely validates my feeling about reading. When people ask me why I read so much, I wish I had something half as elegantly written as the author has for the character Francesca. less
