review 1: good writing style, fun summer read and good in depth execution of portraying the characters. However, abig HOWEVER. this book was marked with the stamp 'queen of the psychological thriller' and had recommendations by authors of the likes of lee child and other 'big names'. But this was no thriller whatsoever. there was no builmd up towards a climax, no catharsis and more over no actual tension to the plot. it was all very 'flat'. If a good director would make this into a movie, there is huge potential, by squeeking branches and twigs in the forest and the howling of wolves, but none of this was described in the book and for that reason it was a big disappointment. there is nothing wrong with plain vanilla ice cream, in fact, it's good, but it's a very bog disappointed if i... moret is sold to you as belgian pancakes with strawberries and a scoop of vanilla.
review 2: When I first started this book I thought it would be like some of the other books I read of Lisa Unger. But it was very different. Very slow at the beginning as she introduces us to the characters and Heart Island. It was a little more interesting when the family reached the island. But overall it was just a story about relationships within families and the various lives of people and how they can make poor choices. It was an okay read but not the usual suspenseful thriller that I am used to with Lisa Unger's books. Even though I was not a fan of this book others may find this book a good read since Lisa Unger does not disappoint in the quality of her writing. less

I have enjoyed her books but this was not a good read. It was far fetched and frankly, boring.

Too long, a bit too predictable.
