review 1: Katie is notified that her younger sister, Mia, currently traveling with a friend, has committed suicide by jumping off a cliff in Bali. She finds the idea of suicide impossible to accept and sets off to retrace Mia's journey. Taking along Mia's travel journal, Katie makes her way to California, Hawaii, Australia and Bali. It is a voyage of discovery in many ways, particularly as Katie examines and reevaluates her relationships with Mia, with her fiance Ed and with long-time friend Finn. The narrative switches between the two sisters, a device that works well as we see their differing understandings of the same situations. The ending is satisfying and not contrived.
review 2: This was an emotionally charged novel. A very sad, yet very beautiful story abou... moret two sisters. This was my first Lucy Clarke novel and it is obvious she is a very talented writer. It is truly hard to imagine that this is her first book. If you are looking for a light, fluffy read, this is not it. This book is intense and will leave you feeling sad, yet touched. I am looking forward to reading her newest book, A Single Breath. less
