review 1: Just really, really love this series. I'm fairly new to graphic novels and comics. This series packs a punch with everything I want. Strong female lead; quirky characters, extras, and imaginary friends; love and respect for nature; curiosity. On top of that, the illustrations had me on page 1. Love Hilda! Please, Luke Pearson, if you are reading. Don't stop! Give us more! I love the world Hilda lives in!
review 2: Brilliant. Absolutely gorgeous. I can't even express how much I'm in love with Luke Pearson's Hilda comics. As soon as I saw them on Laini Taylor's blog, I was captivated and HAD to have them! And I wasn't disappointed. It's true what they say - the Hilda illustrations instantly reminded me of both the amazing Tove Jansson, with whose Moomin books I g
... morerew up (and which I still adore!), and the genius Hayao Miyazaki, whose films I have cherished for many years now. I don't even generally read comics or picture books - but the Hilda books are so much more than that. They effortlessly transport you into Hilda's world. The books are full of whimsy and adorable quirkiness, but they're also funny and entertaining. They create a feeling of certain pleasant coziness that is so very unique. I only wish that the first book - Hildafolk - was longer! But then again, I would never be able to get enough of Hilda. She's such a colorful and sprightly heroine that I wish we were best friends. less
