review 1: A Summer in Europe is an enchanting and very inspiring novel which I enjoyed reading a lot. Gwen, who always thought what she most want of life is an everyday routine, rules she can orientate on and who prefers foreseeable actions to surprises, has found all these items in predictable Richard, who she hoped to get married to. But her not so foreseeable Aunt Bea has other plans for Gwen. On her 30ths birthday Gwen didn't get the engagement ring she hoped for but A Summer in Europe with Aunt Bea and her S&M club - whose members are btw a hilarious bunch of older but still young at heart people, you have to like immediatly. This journey to Europe is a journey to Gwen's heart and soul. In those weeks she found not only her art, she found her soulmate. A Summer in Europe makes ... moreyou think about what your art is and that you sometimes should just take the turn live offers you; see things, places and people more openly and just enjoy the moment. Marilyn Brant's novel is one of those which stays in your mind and soul for a while and I will recommend and give away to special and dear people who appreciate a special and dear story.
review 2: I won this book last year, and it arrived signed just before my birthday. Marilyn was gracious enough to write a note in the book and a birthday greeting. I started the book and I couldn't put it down. I felt transported to every place Gwendolyn went. The descriptions of the scenery and the food kept me reading. I loved this book. And I can honestly say its my favorite now. It took over for Bridges of Madison County. I didn't think any book could do that. I can't wait to see if there is another book to come out to see what happens with Gwen and Emerson. less

Fun story, but there was too much 'lecturing' on string theory, and physics, and chess.
