review 1: I did enjoy this book but I found it a little bit formulaic. It was generally well written, it had a good pace and kept me interested until the end. I felt that in places there could have been more description - anyone unfamiliar with the various areas of London may well have struggled to picture the settings. The characters were mostly believable, although some of the methods and motives of the killer seemed to me to be a little far fetched. I am, perhaps, being over picky - this is a good story and people who like the crime thriller genre will most likely enjoy this book.
review 2: It's always good to sit back with a Thorne novel and Billingham's latest one doesn't miss a trick. However, it did take me a while to get through, not because I wasn't enjoying i
... moret but because of other distractions. Nonetheless, a good read. Not as good as Lifeless, his best in my opinion, but well up there. Billingham's skill is in drawing the reader into well crafted characters. All the usual are here. The ending was heart pounding indeed, and well written. I look forward to the next. less

Thorne is still as emotionally dysfunctional as ever and the crime writing still as good.

Interesting. Another Tom Thorne "screwup". Leaves question about Thorne's future if any.

I found the main character (Tom Thorne) rather one-dimensional, and annoying
