review 1: Really enjoyed this book on several levels: reuniting with old friends full of good humor and chuckles, especially the ongoing comedy of naming animals; wonderful and pertinent literary references to E M Forster and Thomas Hardy; intelligent untangling of cold case with many viable murder suspects. Even if you are not a Richard Jury fan you can pick this book up and enter into his world with little trouble. Thanks to the author for years of good books!
review 2: Another witty mystery with Superintendent Jury and his cast of characters. Vertigo 42 continues to entertain with the sleuthing methods of the New Scotland Yard. While parts of plot were predictable, it's steady pace of solving crimes and the layering of subplots never stops entertaining. But, one wonde... morers how these detectives ever get anything done with the constant pauses for tea breaks. This book is easily read in multiple sittings with excellent chapter breaks. I for one, enjoy it when I feel as if the end of each chapter is a good stopping point. I'm waiting for the next one, Martha Grimes. less
