review 1: I really like the Harry Bosch series so I was intrigued by this book which combines Bosch with Micky Haller. The dialogue and plot were very good, although it was a bit disconcerting that the point of view kept switching between the two main characters. It was compelling enough that I read it in one sitting and basically ignored everything and everyone around me for a few hours! I wasn't crazy about the ending - it seemed too abrupt and left questions hanging - but otherwise I liked the book very much.
review 2: As with other books in the series about Mickey Haller (the Lincoln Lawyer), this one is terrific for putting the reader in the courtroom in a high-stakes case, and seeing the cat-and-mouse game between defense and prosecution attorneys. Jason Jessup
... more was convicted and imprisoned for the murder of a 12-year-old girl 24 years earlier, but his conviction was reversed due to tainted evidence. The DA's office asks Mickey Haller to be an independent prosecutor -- a real switch for the long-time defense attorney -- to re-try the murderer to keep him in prison. As with his other books, Connelly has some great twists and turns in the investigation (involving Haller's half-brother, Detective Harry Bosch), as well as family dynamics with Mickey, Harry, their daughters, and Mickey's ex-wife, Maggie, who is assigned second chair prosector to Mickey. It was as rapid-paced and absorbing as all the other books in the series... right up until the end, which felt like a real let-down. The resolution was adequate, but fizzled a bit, particularly in terms of the investigating leads that Harry had been following on the suspect. (Don't want to say more and be a spoiler). Still worth reading as a part of the overall series, because it adds to the overall picture of Mickey and Harry's family relationships. But it's not one of the better stories in the series. less
