review 1: While I was reading this book, it kept me exited because their are two points of view which is piper, one of the girls that got kidnapped and one of the detectives. Whats interesting about it is that they kind of put the interrogation to the side and moved on. But after a crime was committed from a couple, piper and rash's file come up. They go deeper into the interrogation, and have different suspects of who killed them, but the actual killer is just a shock, because I never thought that it would be that person.
review 2: I have read two mysteries by Michael Robotham and have thoroughly enjoyed both of them. Robotham has a unique voice and it is a pleasure to read a mystery with real character, unsuspected twists and turns and resolutions that ring true. In th
... moreis case we have an interesting structure as well: two teen-aged girls have been captured and are being held in an underground cell by a single man they name George, Natasha (Tash) is the eldest and a real fireball. Into drugs, drinking and sex, she is far advanced from her fellow captive, Piper Hadley, the younger of the two. In passages that alternate between a journal by one of the girls and a contemporary account in straight prose, we catch both sides of the story. There are all sorts of reasons to suspect the usual suspects: a boyfriend of sorts of Tash and almost anybody for the inflamingly innocent Piper. Even Piper’s mother is caught up in the tension created by the two girls disappearance. There are strong hints at a lesbian love interest between the girls but not enough to stop the plot. A strange but somehow logical pair of men lead the search for the girls and their captor: Joe Loughlin, in the early stages of MS and a psychologist, and former cop Victor Ruiz. It has been three years since the girls disappeared and the trail is very cold but Loughlin and Ruiz pick up the shards that are left and pursue all the possibilities. Loughlin, divorced and trying to get back to a normal life, finds some solace on the side but still hangs on to deep attachments to his wife and daughter. His psychological status affects his pursuit of the girls and complicates a rather simple story. There are other characters, such as a friend of the girls who is turned into a double amputee by a vengeful creep and various cops and associates, but the main load is the burden of Joe and Victor. You can and do care about all of the people in Robotham’s cast of characters, like them or hate them, and that alone is sufficient to keep your interest. And if you like this one, there are several more he has written that will keep you equally enthralled. less
