review 1: My first book by Robert Robotham was Wreckage, which I enjoyed tremendously. So it's obvious I didn't read this series in order. As a matter of fact I've read every book after the wreckage and decided that I should start from the beginning. Judging from my rating it's clear that I was fairly disappointed. It's obvious no comparison to his later works. The rhythm was wrong I some felt irrelevant. But I learned from an interview of Robotham that this newest published version was different than before. It was actually his original version but the American publisher cut about 1/3 of it and published years before. Maybe they have their reasons to do so now that I've read it. Still, I am a fan of Robothan. It only shows how extremely well he has improved over the... more years of writing.
review 2: Overall I liked the book. However, I did not care for the main character. What an idiot! How he survived to the end is beyond my comprehension. Toward the end of the story, it felt like he was going to start making some intelligent choices and the book would wrap up with a nice smart guy outwits villain ending. I’d read this author again, but I’d probably avoid the ones that revolve around this character. less

Well written story. Great use of metaphors. I'm looking forward to more of Robotham's work.

My favorite mystery today. Wish there were more than a few in the series.

I like the idea of the book but the ending was a bit too "easy"
