review 1: This book defied my assessment of the previous book as good-but-not-a-favorite. It started out slow but really picked up, and the last book is also excellent. I love fantasies in which there's a house that plays such a large role, with such personality, that it's almost a character. Besides for the house, the other settings were all really well imagined and described, which adds a lot to a book. (The plot and characters were great, too!)
