review 1: Okay, more stories by non-Mignola artists. The first few are great. But the last one, I wasn't too keen on and it felt like a terrible place to take up volume 12's ongoing story from. In any case; short stories. Pretty good except for the final one. Don't read this volume between volume 9 and 12. And just skip the last story, really. Both this and the previous volume stand better read on their own than read in sequence.
review 2: Another fun volume of Hellboy, one serving as more of a compilation than a self-contained narrative. We jump through the ages here, with art from different contributors, including the excellent Richard Corben and Scott Hampton. My favorite tale saw Hellboy fighting vampires with luchadores in 1950s Mexico. I also enjoyed outings where h
... moree fended off a murderous house and tracked down a particularly sinister vampire.A couple of the other tales feel overly familiar, and an issue exploring alien abductions and cow people at the end was just too goofy for me. There's a great appearance from Babylonian lion demon Asmodeus, although I was disappointed to see the character come to a hasty end. That can be the problem with Hellboy; all too often there's an excellent build-up that just devolves down to some punching at the end. Even so, I enjoyed these stories. less

These short stories varied in quality, but the ones that worked knocked it out of the park.

Worth it for the Mignola and Scott Hampton stories. I can't get into Corben's style.
