review 1: Recommended by a patron who, like me, was a big fan of Death Note. In this society, young children are inoculated with a vaccine, about 1 in 1000 of which contain a capsule that will explode and kill the person when they are between 18-24 years old. Our hero, Fujimoto, has the job of delivering the Ikigami, or death paper, 24 hours before the unlucky citizen is scheduled to die. Even in this first volume he is beginning to express some unease about his job, and perhaps the whole order of his society. Well written and drawn, with an interesting premise. I'll definitely be checking out Volume 2.
review 2: This is what a great manga should be. Chilling to the bone. Messy with the mind. Great, fantastical art. Not to mention a touch of sci-fi. Ikigami has a gre
... moreat concept. It really reminds me of "The Giver" more than anything. They're trying to make the best Utopian society, but it's far from it. The system is incredibly flawed, and through this book, we see the flaws in action. Although I don't know if I'll see more of the series, it's definitely a must read. less

Dystopian manga. I liked this one better than vol. 6.
