review 1: I am intrigued enough to keep going with this series but I think this book was maybe more character introduction than it was an interesting book on its own....some character development starting to happen with main characters, I think..but too soon to tell almost. There are word repetitions that Singh uses that annoy me but overall I think the worlds she imagines are pretty neat and her romances quite engaging.
review 2: Wow! Nalini Singh makes Urban Fantasy into Action Adventure/Horror with a generous helping of romance, what a ride!Picking up where book 1 Angel's Blood leaves off we really get into the world building and the introduction of characters who are/will be critical to the over all story line. There is so much to the secondary character's that you... more can't wait to read their stories and you know you will further along in the series. NS has a gift, her characters are never black and white but so many shades of grey just like rl her characters are not all good or all evil. The "good" guys have a darkness in them that they must work to overcome but that darkness is a vital part of who they are, the "bad" guys all have a spark of good, this doesn't mean they are "good" guys but there is no purely dark. This makes all the characters fully dimensional and if you don't exactly relate to them all personally you are definitely intrigued by them . The story arc in this novel is like a good song, it starts off soft and fairly comfortable then slowly gets faster and louder until it crescendos with that one strong note taking listeners to the peak with the singer. The story gives us more of Elena getting used to her new life and building a relationship with Raphael and his 7 but then as things happen the story gets faster and makes your heart beat faster, taking you to so many places then near the end it all blows up! It ends leaving us wanting more ...and needing to jump onto the next song...er book:) This is exactly the type of book I love in a UF series or actually in any of my more suspense filled reads...I have to give it a 5 stars and like any true addict I need my next hit so I am rushing to read book three and hope that this song becomes a complete opera... A high recommendation on this novel...don't let the rocky start to the series fool you...this is gonna be a great one! less
