review 1: Un po' piu' di un racconto lungo, un po' meno di un romanzo breve ed alla fine la narrazione ne risente. Un libro poco entusiasmante, a volte solo abbozzato e che lascia in bocca la sensazione di essere incompleto. Un incontro umani alieni che non è altro che un ricongiungimento con una "tribù" rapita non si sa bene da chi o perchè nel lontano passato e che ora, dopo centinaia di migliaia di anni torna al pianeta natio per avvertirlo di una minaccia incombente. Nancy Kress ancora una volta "gioca" con la genetica, con l'evoluzione e con le capacità dell'uomo di mutare l'essenza del proèprio corpo in un futuro vicino e credibile. Nell'insieme la storia presenta lacune, e anche l'analisi dei personaggi lascia a desiderare. la fine precipita in un crescendo di prevedibil... moreità e con una specie di mafifesto/proclama che non ho apprezzato molto. Una buona idea in qualche modo poco approfondita e sprecata.
review 2: Huh. New novella I read as part of the Endeavour Award. And in general I read what I can of Nancy Kress. This one was interesting but uneven. I definitely did not buy the basic premise, specifically the reason why our pov character was around the aliens at all. And her family was irritating but kind of cardboard - as was her supporting cast of scientists. But the ideas were interesting. And the aliens were different. 3.5 of 5. less
