review 1: Crimson Rising was about Jesse Fisher and Cassius Stevenson trying to fight for their lives. The government had pushed Cassius into hiding on Earth. But once Jesse finds a red pearl and brings it back to Skyship Academy it leads to a lot of destruction. But the red pearl leads Jesse to meet his brother, Cassius, again. He also has an unwanted meeting with Theo, Madame’s new little servant, who has a crazy capability for killing people very easily and he enjoys doing it too. They then find out that Theo is Matigo’s son from Haven fulfilling the job he was sent to do and that Matigo is already on Earth to take over. We find out that Theo is a shifter, which means that he can control Ridium and make it do whatever he wants. Theo makes it known to us that bringing the two... more boys together very well possibly be the beginning of the end of Earth. This is my favorite series and I can’t stop reading it. It has the romance that would keep a girl interested but also has the action to keep it interesting. I would have to say that this one is better than the first one hands down. I wouldn’t have ever thought that I would be so deep into this series but I am in love. This is the type of book series that could keep me re-reading them over and over again and I would still love it all over again.
review 2: This is the second book in the series (trilogy?) and it does a good job of continuing the action. Several new figures have been added to the cast. Theo, in particular, is a very interesting character. I'm curious to see if he continues all bad or if he's redeemable. The action is pretty good, especially at the end. My quibble with the plot is how often things happen coincidentally or fortuitously. It's lazy plotting and could so easily be set up so it doesn't feel author manipulated. I also think the book goes on one chapter too long. It would have been much better to stop sooner. The last chapter could easily be the first chapter of the next book, which is due out this October, so I'll have to wait to find out how the battle for Earth comes out. Overall, it's a good read and I'm looking forward to the next book. less
