review 1: Really good read. Between the way my parents raised me and the way my husband's parents raised him (along with our own set of rules we will include or not include), we already planned to implement many of the things addressed in this book. However, lots of good, practical examples on how to do this. Especially liked her thoughts on food, sleep and bedtime/parent time. Don't think we will do everything suggested in this book, but a lot aligns with our personal philosophies. Her narrative writings allow for easy reflection when encountering a situation in real life. Worth a read for sure.
review 2: This book includes a fair amount of sweeping generalizations that requires its reading to include a grain of salt. But there was a good bit of truth to be found too.
... moreI recognized a lot of American parenting truths, at least, so I'm assuming there were a lot of French parenting truths in there too. Overall I enjoyed reading this book and taking a look at parenting in another culture. I definitely felt there were certain philosophies I'd like to adopt, though others I'm not even remotely tempted by. It was interesting and sometimes quite funny and I think I would have rated this 4 start if I didn't feel like it began to repeat itself towards the end. less
