Reclaiming the Crown
review 1: My CommentsAll right, another great adventure with one of the brothers from this wonderful family and I read it in one sitting! Prince Alexander is noticing strange things as he prepares to follow his parents in the motorcade. When the attack begins, his only concern is making sure his sisters behind him are safe. Before he is able to check on them, an explosion nearby knocks him out and he experiences memory loss. It’s a miracle when Lily shows up and he’s able to tell her about needing to leave the country immediately. Adding to the confusion with his amnesia, will he be able to show his true gratitude to Lily with her kindness or will he be a danger to her?Lily has no idea who this man is, but he needs her help. Without even considering the consequences she ju... moremps in and saves his life, only to have it threatened by her own family. Can Lily trust this soldier, the only person she has ever felt safe with? Will his memory be restored in time to save the crown? Most of this book takes place in the desert so the stakes are definitely higher for the main characters as they escape betrayal with Lily’s Uncle David, the evil and conspiring general who doesn’t hesitate to aim a gun at loved ones, snakes and scorpions in the desert, risking extreme heat and exposure with the elements, and doing all they can to protect each other with limited resources. It was interesting seeing Alec’s memory come back gradually, loved the characters from the previous books making appearances in this one, and the risks Lily takes in helping Alex knowing her family is unstable and dysfunctional.Really enjoyed Rachelle’s note at the end:Family. Love them or hate them, like them or merely tolerate them, we are all influenced by our families. It’s more than the genetic imprint they give us. Every interaction influences who we are, molding and shaping us, or sending us running in the other direction…..No matter where you came from or what your family was like, I pray you’ll be encouraged by Alex and Lily’s story. Are you trying to sort out where you came from? Or are you running from a family whose choices are contrary to your faith? Know that, no matter what your family is like, you have a heavenly Father who loves you, who will see you through all the challenges ahead and bring you to the happy ending you long for.
review 2: Okay, so I cheated. I read this book before reading the first two books in the series, because I was intrigued by the title. Having admitted as much, I'm happy to report that I can't wait to explore the first two novels in the "Reclaiming the Crown Series," "Princess in Peril" and "Protecting the Princess" as well as the follow-up to "Prince Incognito," "The Missing Monarch." Forgive me if this seems a little sexist, but I relished the idea of reading a story about a hero in peril for once. Author Rachelle McCalla's premise -- a young prince who's lost his memory following an attack on the royal motorcade -- begged for a read. That said, I got a little suspicious that the book might lag a bit when the two main characters wandered into an environment that I expected to prove boring and lackluster. Boy, was I wrong!!! I could not -- would not -- sleep until I'd finished this book on the second night of a two-day marathon race to the end. I enjoyed this novel tremendously; and, if you relish volatile, heart-pumping inspirational romantic suspense, you will, too! less
