review 1: I was a bit disappointed by this novel. It was definitely a Feist novel but I felt it was very 'cut & paste.' Maybe (just maybe) it might be I have set the bar a little high for Feist over the years but this novel seemed like it could have been something more. Most of the demon theme is still there from the previous book and most of my favorite characters are still there...but it felt I was glazing over a novel rather than actually getting pulled into the story. I thought it was the length of the book at first. However, I noticed most of the story's plot was just...ok. Although...the ending made me want to continue reading the next series and finishing it and I honestly can't wait. Being a loyal Feist fan for most of my reading life, it will be sad to finish the epic I gre... morew up with, but something I'm really looking forward to it.
review 2: Raymond Feist is really a mediocre writer, however he does come up with stories that you want to read. While the first four or so were the best books (the characters in them were so much better than characters in later books) this is about typical of what he writes. Like most, if not all of his books, you do have to reread some sentences to make sense of them, but the overall story is interesting enough to keep you reading. Once you get past the somewhat sloppy writing (which you adjust to in the early books) it's an ok read. I will continue to read his stuff, although i really do wish he wrote a little bit better. less
