I have always been fascinated by historical fiction and the retelling of stories such as Robin Hood, King Arthur, or fairy tales, but it had never crossed my path to find a retelling of the story of Troy. I began reading this novel with only the basic knowledge of the story of Troy, Helen, Paris and the horse, but was fascinated to learn about all the events that happened during the years leading up to and after the sacking of Troy. I was also interested in the way the story was told, from the point of view of Kassandra, Paris’s twin sister. But like all good historical fiction, there is a tendency to overdo the history and leave the reader trapped in exposition. I found many of the sections difficult to get through due to the shear amount of facts and lack of action. However, if you enjoy a good tail and don’t mind a slower pace of facts, this is the book for you.
