Last Top 5 Wednesday of the year. That really snuck up on me…..
Hi everyone and welcome to Top 5 Wednesdays! Top 5 Wednesdays is a weekly meme hosted on a Goodreads group, the link to which I’ve included here in case any of you would like to join!
Today’s topic is 2018 Wishlist. As the description says:
EXTREME BUT BELIEVABLE PLOT TWISTLooking forward into the new year, this is a list of the types of books you’d like to see more of in 2018! Try to avoid actual titles, and discuss themes, genres, or tropes you’d like to see more of in the new year!
Yep that’s right. I really need a book to completely blow my mind. Usually when there is a plot twist in books labelled as Mystery/Thriller, the plot twist really puts me off because its either predictable or ridiculous. The only exception to this rule has been Gone Girl by Gillian Flynn, and that’s only because I went into the book knowing basically NOTHING.
BOY AND GIRL MEET, GO THROUGH ADVENTURES BUT DON’T FALL IN LOVEThis has been annoying me lately. Not every guy and girl who meet and become friends have to go like “Damn she’s hot I must have her”/”His eyes draw me in, and I know I’m his”. It’s sickening after a point and I just want to see a duo that become so close that they’re basically sarcastic, and cutesy, and understanding when it comes to each other but DO NOT FALL IN LOVE.
To that end, can anyone recommend any such book?
HEISTS
I finished the Six of Crows duology by Leigh Bardugo this year and I somehow feel like reading more books about Heists.
THE ‘SHE’S NOT LIKE OTHER GIRLS’ TYPEWell, sometimes “she” is exactly like other girls. This whole trope is predicated on the idea that all girls behave a certain way and that’s stupid to me. Everyone’s different, stop generalizing. Also, she doesn’t need to stand out just to be important to the story line.
A NICE/SMART/SENSIBLE JOCKThis is largely related to the last one. Not all jocks are mean and stupid. Stop generalizing them. Also not all of them have the sole motive in life to date the head cheerleader. To the same end – not all unpopular guys are sweet. Sometimes, they’re just not. I need a nice guy to read about!
And that’s all for today! What are some of the tropes that you want to see in 2018? Did I get any list? Also, I would love recommendations for the above tropes/genres/themes in case you have any!
Until next time –
