review 1: Now this is Robert North Patterson at his best. The Spire is a thriller involving every day people. His writing style in this novel reminds my of Jeffrey Archer, perhaps my favorite author. This novels follows a high school student, growing up in a small college town, who experiences a father-son relationship with a professor at that college. The boy goes on to become a successful Boston attorney, and eventually the president of that small town college. Through all of this the Spire (a tower on the campus) plays a major roll involving murder. The investigation of one specific incident at the Spire, plays a major role in this novel.I feel Patterson is at his best with legal drama. Although there is no "trial" in this novel, the legal struggle and surrounding doubts ar... moree there in abundance. Many of Patterson's latest novels spend too much time on his personal political beliefs. His personal beliefs in many cases are the opposite of mine and therefore result in making these novels too 'preachy' for me.Patterson novels like Private Screening, Degree of Guilt, Eclipse, and The Spire are Patterson at his best....in my opinion.
review 2: Although this book was fairly good overall, I found that it developed incredibly slowly. For the first 2/3 of the book, I found myself curious as to what would eventually happen. I never got very into the book just because it wasn't very thrilling or though provoking. The plot was adequate but it didn't pick up and get interesting until the very last part of the book, but even then it wasn't terribly engaging. The story was fine but it needed a little more of a motive. It was difficult to tell what he was writing about. Was the book a biography? Was it supposed to be a life story? What was the point of this book? I honestly had no clue why he was writing it until I read the last little bit. I found that although this book was pretty insignificant in it's plot, there was an underlying message that was pretty important. This book also made me feel intelligent as I was reading it- I think because of the language used in dialogues. less

Not what I expected, but ok. Even the author said it isn't his normal book.
