review 1: Gotta say, books #1 and #2 were meeh-material. In my opinion: mediocre, too slowly paced and kinda boring. Not much action, and that's what I am looking for in a series involving vampires. But everything changed with plot-twist/cliff-hanger book #3 and went off like fireworks with this one.To those starting this serie and are somewhat disappointed in the beginning: keep going, you might enjoy it after all! ;)
review 2: Personally, I loved this installment. From what I've gathered, Blood Promise tends to be the least favorite of the series, but as of right now, this is my favorite. Still, I rated it a 4/5 because the beginning was incredible hard for me to get into. There was a lot of waiting around and the plot was too slow-moving for me, but when it picked up
... more- I was hooked until the very end. This book was dark and I loved reading the complete deconstruction of the main characters - Rose, Lissa, Dimitri, and even a little bit of Christian. But, I also really like when authors take their characters to the very edge, and I think we saw a lot of different sides of these characters because of this. I'm very excited to finish VA in 2015! less

More 4.5 stars! I am really loving this series now, and I wasn't so keen on the first book. Rose is such a fantastic character, but I haven't warmed to Lissa at all. I'm just hot and cold with her. All of the other characters are funny and snarky and really brave and Lissa is kind of boring most of the time. The twists in this book were so good, normally I can see a would be 'twist' coming a mile away but in this book, not so much. I didn't see the Abe thing coming, and I didn't see the other huge thing at the end coming which, after I read it, made lots of sense. Going to start spirit bound tomorrow, as it is 5am...

This is a better book than the previous one. A little low on action but it still is quite fun to read. The new setting of the book (Russia) was a fresh addition to the book too. Also, the disappearance of Rose pushes Lissa to see things in a new light (Moroi/dhampir politics and dynamics) which contributed to some character growth for her. Finally, the fact that Rose is hellbent on going forth with her plan, despite how hard it is, adds to the strength of her character.
