review 1: The parts of this book that were meh were very meh. The parts that were great were very great. Overall it's an average book, largely because it's a collection of in between stories and not an overarching narrative. The first couple of stories were pretty weak and had some forced drama for Mark and the crew. Then we're treated to another Allen the Alien issue (again because Mark's activities needed to be censored - something I find hilarious) that picks up where we left him and it's a great ride. It even brings back another character that didn't get nearly enough attention last time. It's a bit of a game-changer for the long game. Next is a crossover with Wolf Man. And it blows. Kirkman's writing felt weird and clumsy. The plot was loose and hardly made sense. On top of tha... moret another artist drew one of the issues and it really showed. The characters had no sense of emotion. This whole thing was just blah. It was probably only done because of an editorial mandate and they wanted to boost interest in the other character. After that we get a story that's really like this whole volume in one issue. It does a good job of showing several different plot threads and ends with a huge reveal that was just great. Finally we get the story of Powerplex. I think it was executed spectacularly and had some great feel moments. I can't give this full stars because it really fell short in a lot of areas, but the end definitely reminded me why I'm usually so excited for this book.
review 2: This was fun to read and I can see how its laying out the pieces on the board for something big to happen. I didn't really feel the mounting tension, though, which I think was intentional. The title, "Happy Days," kind of sums it up with a breather from deep emotional pain. Even the bad guys don't seem as bad.I wonder a lot why there seems to be a stigma against happy stories (or music, for that matter). I think its harder to find a good one than a good thriller or painful drama. I guess for the most part happy stories don't help us learn anything about ourselves. Its almost like "nothing happened here." But I think everyone once in awhile we need to reminded how to be happy. The last story didn't do much for me and I wonder why. The characters didn't seem very 3 dimensional, but then I guess there wasn't much time for that. They seemed to exist only for the plot to move forward. I'm sure more will be revealed later, but it wasn't a strong ending or cliffhanger. less

THAT DATE! I wonder if my husband is secretly a superhero and that's why he's late for everything?
