review 1: Overall, a nice compilation of the earliest Zombie stories, but the quality of them is quite varied. The Dead Days special is more concerned about putting together the puzzle pieces of the infection than telling a particularly interesting story [5/10]. The original zombie storyline from Ultimate Fantastic Four #21-23 is not just original but shocking and it has great art too [8/10]. "Frightful" (FF #27-32) is a nice followup, with good excitement [7/10]. The Black Panther story reads like it was written in the 1970s or 1980s, and that level of cheese just doesn't hold up in the modern day [3/10].
review 2: A follow up to the original Marvel Zombies, this volume has three different stories in it:1. Marvel Zombies origin story, from the original incident in Manh
... moreattan to the failure of this alternate Earth's last heroes on Nick Fury's Helicarrier. Very good story, though short.2. Ultimate Fantastic Four 21-23 and 30-32, where the Zombie universe was first introduced. This is excellent, even though it's the alternate, modern retelling of the Fantastic Four. This storyline takes up most of the book.(I should note that there are two main Marvel universes, the 'Classic Universe' is what we all grew up on, what most of the current movies are based off of. The 'Ultimate Universe' started several years ago, it basically resets and retells all the stories in modern times and with many changes. There are at least two other alternate universes, 'Zombies' being one of them, 'Marvel Mangaverse' another retelling with Japanese-style animation.)3. The only disappointment is the final few chapters, which is from Black Panther ('Classic Marvel' universe, I believe). By this point the few surviving Marvel Zombies, having devoured Galactus and absorbed his Power Cosmic (which happened in Zombies volume 1), have traveled to the Skree homeworld to eat all life. Now things get weird. Apparently Black Panther and Storm (of the X-Men) are not only married, but they've replaced Reed Richards and Susan Storm in the Fantastic Four. And they got to the Skree homeworld by using these two magical frog artifacts that brought them into the Zombie Universe...Ugh.Needless to say, this last bit is my least favorite. The storyline makes no sense, the whole magic frog thing is just weird. Worst of all, the zombies themselves are less terrifying and more comical. less
