review 1: I recently read another comic about young Jewish tourists traveling to Poland to uncover the secrets of life before the Holocaust - "We Won't See Auschwitz" - and though I liked it at the time, this one instantaneously pushed it from my mind. No one can touch Modan: her art, coloring, and storytelling are without peer. Modan will always be one of my favorite writers, comics or otherwise. So beautiful, touching, and funny.
review 2: This was just okay, for me. Ultimately, it felt a just little clunky. The overall story was a good one, though the pace of the reveal was a tad too slow. I also liked that it was a multi-lingual story, and the ways in which that was depicted. The art was sometimes a little too cartoony, in ways that did not match the storyline. But t
... morehe cartoonist drawing the story - the story we are now reading - was a little too much meta / self-insertion for me. That really detracted from the overall plot, for me. less
