The Demon's Lexicon
review 1: I was nowhere near as crazy about the Demon's Lexicon as the Demon's Covenant. It really struggled on the plot front. The characters were still engaging, Jessie in particular. The humor that makes me love Rees Brennan with a fangirl's devotion is still amazing. I'm just still not sold on the viewpoint shift. After reading it I felt like little was gained by getting out of Nick's head and into Mae's. The primary action was still mostly between Nick and Alan. It wasn't until the very end that I felt like Mae's perspective offered me more information. On top of that it weakened the connection I felt to the world through Nick. I'll read the third one but I won't be as quick to get it as I was for this book.
review 2: I really liked this book, just as I liked the fi
... morerst of the series - "The Demon's Lexicon". What does it mean to be human? or inhuman? Is behavior determined by nature or nurture? Those are the questions in the background of this book. Pretty serious themes, but they are pretty much unspoken in this very action oriented young adult novel. The characters are intriguing, even the demon. An alternate history, the book has demons and magicians and other oddities living virtually unknown in a normal English populace. The plot twists and turns kept me reading way later than I should have. Very hard to put down. less
