review 1: Stone Bruises is a very fast paced novel, and the adrenaline filled en media res acts as a great hook and sets the pacing for the story. I thought that the revelation of Sean’s backstory was done in a way that keeps readers intrigued, but doesn’t leave them feeling like there is something the other characters know that the reader’s don’t. The reader is placed almost in the same situation as the rural farm family; they slowly get to know Sean just as we do. I found this to be a big bonus, because the reader does in fact know more than the other characters (besides Sean), although it is done in such a way that they aren’t feeling as though they’re the only ones left out from the information, keeping this novel interesting and gripping throug... morehout!
review 2: I got this book from netgalley because I really like Simon Beckett. I loved Chemistry of Death and the other Dr Hunter books. But this one is different, more psychological thriller than out-and-out crime. Psychological thrillers are not really my thing (for example, I love Ruth Rendell but I don't like her Barbara Vine novels) and I found this quite difficult to get into to begin with. However, I persevered and from just after halfway I started to get into it and by the end I had really enjoyed it. If you like psychological thrillers I would think you will love this - it is very well written, atmospheric and with a satisfying ending. less

Good story, lots of suspense, and not a lot of violence. That's how I like my thrillers :-)
