review 1: This book was hard to get through. I didn't really care for any of the characters, unfortunately, because they were all unlikeable. The two protagonists don't really seem to like each other even though they are engaged to be married. Not once, in my opinion, did they show any sort of affection towards each other. In fact, it seems that they purposely try and avoid each other. Baffling that the author would choose to have them be engaged. In fact, all the other characters are also very socially dysfunctional and, as you slog through the book, the reasons for their dysfunctions are slowly explained. Also, the author is very wordy and includes scenes that really add nothing to the plot, but just make this book too long. For example, at one point (don't worry, no spoilers ahe... moread) the author includes a news paper article about some artists and goes into page after page describing characters that have absolutely nothing to do with the book and are never mentioned again, why? I really don't know why I stuck with this other than I really thought it was going to pick up and the mystery was intriguing. Then the end just really dragged on rehashing things that had been covered earlier in the book. Disappointing.
review 2: The story was interesting in that the characters were intertwined in unexpected ways, but this bordered on the unbelievable and contrived. I really couldn't get over being aggravated at how they wouldn't talk to each other or ask each other the most obvious questions. I found Charlie and Simon's relationship really weird, the only weirder relationship was that between Ruth and Aidan. In fact, I don't think anyone in the book has a healthy relationship with anyone. The bottom line is that this book is really strange and annoying. less

This book was not what I expected. A bit slow to start, but became quite gripping.

It was good but dragged out. It got confusing towards the end.
