review 1: If you have not started reading this series … I am crying because you are missing out on the action man. This third installation of the Brennan and Esposito series has just knocked the ball out of the park (I think that’s the saying). This made me feel so many emotions. I found myself gasping during certain moments and I hardly do that with a book. This is one of the best books I have ever read (which is less than 100 books but still) and this series continues to satisfy me.
review 2: In the beginning this book was a bit difficult to understand just because there are more than one cases going on simultaneously. DS Phil Brennan is the lead investigator of the case where a young boy is found in a cage of - what turns out to be human - bones in the basement of
... more a dilapidated house. Marina, the agency's psychologist and also Phil's partner, takes on the mountainous task of trying to not only gain the little boy's trust and also try to communicate with him as well. Recently promoted DCI Rose Martin is taken early out of medical leave due to short staffing and put on the case of a woman who had been hit by not only one car but two. DCI Glass was one of the most narcissistic egomaniacal characters that I have ever read about. He used his job position to get things for himself - which is just plain a-hole behavior. The connections between the two cases slowly melded together after a little help from Don, Phil's (adoptive) father and a former police officer. This was when the topic of The Garden started to arise. The Garden started to become the focus of the investigation, though it was an unknown - it was mainly spoken of rather than seen. The Elders, an important part of The Garden, keep its "cycle" going. Not to ruin any part of the story but Phil's connection to the case will be what helps to close it.But there is so much more to this novel than a crime being solved, it's about family. In a family, the members do not have to be blood relatives; as long as they are there for you through the absolute worst of times that is what truly matters. less

Gave me the willies. AND, it was not predictable. The twist at the end was satisfying.
