review 1: Wasn't particularly enamoured with this one. The whole Gale family concept and their incestuous relationships weird me out. I was able to overcome some of this in the previous book as I liked the heroine Allie. Unfortunately I just don't care enough about Charlie, or any other character in this story (with the glaring exception of Jack who was far and away he best character in this book) to get me past the squicky feelings. I was also very uncomfortable with the seal people's version of love which is actually a disturbing level of magical brainwashing - not love. Wont bother reading the next one.
review 2: So, I gave book 1 in this series a mere 2 stars. Why, therefore, did I even pick up "The Wild Ways?" Um... well, it was on the shelf at the library, and no
... morene Huff's other series openers were. That's my story and I'm sticking to it. :}Anyway, while "Ways" is by no means undersexed, in comparison to its predecessor it is downright tame. Perhaps Huff felt that she had proved her point and was able to move on - at least a Little? Huff is an excellent character writer. While Charlie is star of this story, I really like what she did with Jack, who is second only to Charlie. She did a good job capturing the conflict central to any fourteen-year-old boy trying to figure out if he is child or adult - the fact that Jack is also a dragon, prince, and sorcerer just makes it a bit more exciting. Side-character Paul, while rather lacking in the supernatural assets department, was also nicely developed. Her characters are better than her plot, which was relatively simple and lacked much in the way of tension. So while I'm allowing an extra star over "Emporium," it's on the low end of average in my rating system. less

Again the assumption a reader remembers everything and knows the spry to begin with.
